Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers about shipping cars, motorcycles, boats and machinery from the USA in containers through our yard in Savannah, Georgia.

How do I ship a car from the USA overseas in a container?

Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) receives your car at its container loading yard in Savannah, where car carriers deliver vehicles from auctions, dealers and private sellers. The car is unloaded and photographed, and once you send the loading plan, it is loaded and secured in a container – up to 6 cars in one. The sealed container is trucked to the Port of Savannah; container space is booked through freight forwarders, and the container number and dock receipt appear in your client account.

Which countries and ports do you ship to from Savannah?

From the Port of Savannah, Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) ships containers to ports in Europe, the Baltic states, the Middle East and the CIS, and to any other port served by container lines, including ports in Africa, Asia and the Americas. Common ports include Klaipėda, Riga, Tallinn, Gdańsk, Bremerhaven, Hamburg, Rotterdam and Antwerp; Jeddah, Dammam, Jebel Ali and Aqaba; Poti, Batumi, Constanța and Istanbul; Lagos (Apapa), Tema, Mombasa and Durban; Busan, Singapore and Sydney; Cartagena, Santos and Buenos Aires. If your port is not listed, name the destination country and port in the quote form and we will reply by email with the available options.

How many cars fit in one shipping container, and which container sizes do you use?

Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) loads up to 6 cars in one container, depending on the size of the vehicles and of the container. The most popular sizes are 20', 40' High Cube and 45' High Cube; a High Cube container is 1 foot (30 cm) taller than a standard one, which lets us raise some vehicles on timber supports and place others underneath. The exact number depends on the vehicles' dimensions, weight and condition, so contact us with your loading plan and we will confirm which container fits your vehicles.

Can you ship a motorcycle overseas from the USA?

Yes – Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) loads new, used, salvage or classic motorcycles for shipping from the USA to any port in the world. A motorcycle is secured in the container on its own or together with cars; it often fits crosswise at the door end next to four cars. Every motorcycle is photographed on arrival, before loading and after loading, and the photos appear in your client account.

Can you ship a boat, jet ski, ATV or golf cart in a container?

Yes – Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) loads boats on trailers, jet skis, quads, ATVs and golf carts for shipping from the USA to any port in the world. Because sizes vary, send us photos and the dimensions (length, width and height on the trailer, cradle or on its own wheels) for a loading quote. Jet skis, quads and golf carts often travel together with cars – under a raised car or next to it – while boats are loaded on their own or together with vehicles when the container size allows it.

Can you ship heavy equipment such as excavators or tractors?

Yes – Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) loads mini excavators, loaders, tractors and other machinery into containers for shipping from the USA. For a quote, send us photos, the dimensions (length, width, height) and the weight; if a machine does not fit into a container, we will offer RO-RO shipping. Machinery is secured in the container with straps and blocking, and the photos taken on arrival, before loading and after loading appear in your client account.

Do you ship salvage, damaged or non-running vehicles?

Yes – Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) loads cars in any condition: new, used, salvage or classic. In the quote form, tell us whether the vehicle runs: extra charges may apply for non-running or oversized cargo, and receiving a non-running vehicle does not include repairs. Electric and hybrid vehicles, damaged batteries, fire or flood damage and fuel leaks must be declared before the vehicle is delivered.

Can I buy a car at Copart or IAAI auctions and ship it with you?

Yes – through its partner SmartAutoBid, Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) gives you access to bid and buy at Copart and IAAI: register at smartautobid.com, search both catalogues, see the full price to your port and place your bids. After a win, SmartAutoBid prepares the title and export documents, and, depending on where the auction is, the car goes by car carrier to our yard in Savannah or to a partner terminal in another state, where it is loaded into a container. For cars routed through Savannah, our loading photos and the container number appear in your Jax client account.

Can you transport my car within the USA to your yard in Savannah?

Yes – Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) also ships vehicles within the USA: cars, motorcycles, boats and jet skis from private sellers, auctions and dealers to our Savannah yard or to any other place in the USA. Transport is by open or enclosed car carriers; our office arranges it and advises on the best rate and route for your vehicle. Give us the pickup address in the quote form.

What happens when my vehicle arrives at your yard in Savannah?

At Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia), car carriers are unloaded at our yard at 289 Telfair Rd and every vehicle is photographed on arrival. Titles and bills of sale are checked in and stored with the vehicle record, and the vehicle waits at the yard until it is loaded according to your loading plan. It is photographed again before loading and after loading – three photo sets in total – and all photos appear in your client account together with the container number. The photos record the visible condition; they are not a full mechanical inspection.

How long can my vehicle stay at your yard, and how much does storage cost?

At Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia), every vehicle is stored free of charge for the first 30 days from its arrival at the yard – the arrival day is day 1 – and the loading plan should be sent within those 30 days. From day 31, storage costs USD 10 per vehicle per day, counted from the arrival date through the day the vehicle is loaded into a container or released, inclusive; for example, a vehicle loaded or released on day 45 has 15 paid days, USD 150. The same rule applies to cars, motorcycles, boats and machinery, whether the vehicle is later loaded through Jax or picked up; different terms apply only if agreed with Jax in writing (for example by email).

Do you offer RO-RO shipping?

Yes – besides container loading, Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) also offers RO-RO (roll-on/roll-off) shipping, where the vehicle drives onto the ship on its own wheels. RO-RO suits running vehicles and large machinery that does not fit into a container. For exact details – ports, schedules and prices – contact us and we will suggest the best option.

How can I track my vehicle or container?

On the Jax Auto Shipping (Savannah, Georgia) website, enter the full 17-character VIN or the 11-character container number in "Track Your Cargo"; the result opens in the Jax client system. Once the container is loaded and sealed, its number and the dock receipt appear in your client account together with a link to the shipping line's tracking. After the container has sailed, you can also track it by container number on the shipping line's website.
